As a participant in the SEA Teacher student exchange program, I had the incredible opportunity to learn in a new academic environment, interact with different cultures, and develop myself both professionally and personally.
This program provided hands-on teaching experience in Philippine schools, as well as participation in various cultural and academic activities that enriched my knowledge as a prospective educator.

Arrival & University Orientation
Touched down at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) with a warm CLSU reception team. Joined fellow exchange students from Thailand and Japan on a five-hour journey through Luzon Expressway. Experienced a classic Filipino welcome with Jollibee at a rest area. These transformative days included official photography sessions, Special Student Permit (SSP) registration, exploring the newly inaugurated Dungon Museum showcasing 119 years of CLSU heritage, and conducting formal courtesy calls to university deans and administrative offices.
Off-Campus Educational Tour: Baler
Explored the coastal beauty and rich historical heritage of Baler, Aurora Province. Visited the Museo de Baler to learn about local history, paid respects at the ancestral house of Doña Aurora Quezon, and witnessed the majestic rock formations at Diguisit Beach. This educational tour provided deep insights into Filipino maritime heritage, cultural significance, and the role of local tourism in preserving historical narratives.
Mentoring & Classroom Immersion
Began the professional teaching journey through intensive classroom assistantship and systematic pedagogical observation. Under expert mentor guidance from Sir Mark Alvin R. Samson, studied the K-12 Philippine curriculum framework, analyzed diverse student behavioral patterns across grade levels, and observed innovative teaching methodologies in practice. This immersion provided foundational understanding of local educational context essential for teaching demonstration preparation.
First Teaching Demonstration: Basketball
Conducted the first formal teaching demonstration for Grade 11-Voyagers class. Focused on basketball fundamentals and technical skill acquisition, implementing the Integrated Circuit Drill methodology to maximize student engagement in active physical learning. Emphasized teamwork, individual skill mastery, and sportsmanship while practicing psychomotor assessment techniques. This session established foundational understanding and confidence for teaching practice execution.
Night of Talents Preparation
Collaborated intensively with international peers representing diverse nations to prepare cultural performances showcasing home countries. Dedicated to rehearsals, creative coordination, and technical planning. Developed cross-cultural collaboration skills while preparing performances that would celebrate the global community and foster deeper understanding of each other's heritage.
Final Teaching Demonstration: Volleyball
Executed the final comprehensive teaching demonstration for Grade 11-Originators class. Highlighted the "Philippine Bomb" (spike) technique and strategic team rotations, demonstrating the Philippines' historical contribution to global volleyball excellence. Combined high-energy tactical drills with team-based learning, emphasizing communication, coordination, and collective performance evaluation. Successfully showcased advanced pedagogical competencies in cross-cultural physical education delivery.
Overall Farewell & Cultural Night
Participated in a heartfelt closing program and farewell ceremony celebrating the SEA-Teacher program and strengthened CLSU-international community bonds. The Cultural Night featured traditional Indonesian performances and attire, creating a memorable celebration of cultural diversity and mutual respect. This evening represented the culmination of meaningful relationships, cross-cultural learning, and shared educational experiences.
Manila & Tagaytay Cultural Excursion
Completed final educational tour visiting Manila's historic Intramuros district to explore centuries-old Spanish colonial fortifications and Rizal Park—honoring Philippine national hero José Rizal. Journeyed to Tagaytay to witness the breathtaking panoramic view of the world-famous Taal Volcano. This educational excursion provided historical context and natural beauty appreciation, reinforcing understanding of Philippine geography, heritage, and cultural significance.
Departure & Journey Home
Conducted emotional farewells with mentors, students, and newly formed international friendships. Expressed gratitude for transformative cross-cultural educational experiences, professional mentorship, and unexpected bonds developed during the exchange program. Returned to Ninoy Aquino International Airport for the flight home, carrying comprehensive international teaching competencies, professional development achievements, and irreplaceable memories of the SEA-Teacher program journey.

Adaptation & Openness
The first week in a new environment was truly challenging. Everything felt unfamiliar—from the language and food to the way people interact. Yet from this discomfort, I learned to become more open and adaptive. I realized that differences are not obstacles, but bridges for mutual understanding.
Becoming a Better Educator
Teaching practice at the partner school opened my eyes to various educational approaches. I witnessed how creativity and empathy can transform the way students learn. This experience strengthened my commitment to becoming a teacher who not only transfers knowledge but also inspires.
Cross-Border Friendships
The friends from different countries I met became more than mere acquaintances. They are companions who taught me about new perspectives, courage, and the true meaning of friendship that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries.
